A chimney liner (also known as a chimney flue liner) is a continuous conduit installed inside a chimney's masonry structure. It safely channels the intense heat, toxic gases, and corrosive byproducts of combustion straight up and out of your home. Because bare bricks and mortar are highly porous and prone to cracking, the liner acts as a critical protective shield.
A properly installed chimney liner serves three non-negotiable safety purposes:
• Fire Protection: It isolates intense heat from the combustible wood framing, drywall, and rafters surrounding the masonry chimney. Without a liner, heat can easily transfer through bricks and cause adjacent woodwork to spontaneously ignite.
• Carbon Monoxide Protection: It forms a gas-tight seal that prevents deadly carbon monoxide, smoke, and toxic fumes from seeping through cracked masonry joints and into your living spaces.
• Masonry Preservation: It shields the brick and mortar from the highly acidic condensation produced by modern gas, oil, or wood appliances. Without a liner, these acids aggressively eat away at the inside of the chimney, causing it to crumble from the inside out.
